Bad Start for the Philippine Prison and Jail System

The Philippines has one of the most porous Jail and Prison Systems in the world.  A few months ago three Chinese Drug Dealers were able to escape by poisoning the guard’s food even though they could not speak Tagolog or English.

So, The Philippine Department of the Interior and Local Government announced a 2012 Goal of “No More Prison/Jail Breaks.”

Oops!

Just yesterday in the Navotas Jail, five inmates escaped.

How?

Well, they took a “saw” (who knows how they got a saw in Jail, but maybe it was issued to them along with their prison uniform) and sawed through the wooden beam in the ceiling that was holding the metal roof.  Then they climbed out of the roof and escaped.

I have a suggestion for the Navotas Jail System.  Don’t allow the inmates to have saws and build a strong roof in your jail.

Two of the five have been recaptured.  One was captured at his aunt’s house which is typically not a good place to hide after you escape from jail.
